(A description written in 1891)

A Parish on the river Usk, 1.1/2 miles north-west from Abergavenny; in the Northern division of the county, Hundred, Petty Sessional division, Union and County Court district of Abergavenny; north-western division of Abergavenny rural deanery, Monmouth archdeaconry and Llandaff diocese.

Roads to Brecon and Merthyr pass through this parish.

The church of St. Peter is an ancient building of stone in the Gothic style consisting of chancel, nave, south porch and an embattled western tower containing 2 bells: there are 180 sittings. The register dates from the year 1785. The living is a rectory, tithe rent-charge £210, gross yearly value £268, with 32 acres of glebe and residence, in the gift of the Marquess of Abergavenny, and held since 1879 by the Rev. Richard William Vigers M.A. of Trinity College, Dublin. Sexton: John Uzzell.

The Sugar Loaf Mountain rises to an elevation of 1,954 feet; the Derry, the Graig, the Rholbin and Llanwernarth Breasthills are spurs from the base of the Sugar Loaf.

The Marquess of Abergavenny is lord of the manor and the principal landowner. The soil is sandy; subsoil, stone. The land is chiefly pasture. The area is 2,781 acres of land and 31 of water; rateable value, £2,317.

The population in 1881 was 268.
