(A description written in 1891)

A Parish on the road from Abergavenny to Usk, containing only 3 houses, 5 miles south-east from Abergavenny and about 2 east from Penpergwm railway station on the Great Western line from Abergavenny to Newport; in the Northern division of the county, Hundred, Petty Sessional division, Union and County Court district of Abergavenny; south-western division of Abergavenny rural deanery, Monmouth archdeaconry and Llandaff diocese.

The church of St. Bridget, is an ancient building, situated in the grounds of Llansantffraed Court, and was restored in 1858; it consists of chancel, nave, south porch and a western turret containing 2 bells: there are memorials in the chancel to the ancestors of the Jones and Herbert family: in the churchyard is an ancient stone cross. The register dates from the year 1753. The living is a rectory, gross yearly value £94, in the gift of J.A.E.Herbert Esq., D.L., J.P. and held since 1871 by the Rev. William George Davies B.D. of St. David's College, Lampeter, who is also vicar of Llanvihangel Gobion, near Usk, and resides at Llanthewy-Rytherch. Parish Clerk: Thomas Watkins.
