He is b
est known for Independently conceiving the theory of evolution through natural selection, which prompted Charles Darwin to publish his Origin of Species.

The grave of Wallace's sisters Mary Anne (d. 20 Nov 1882 - aged 8) and Emma (d. 23 Jan 1822 - aged 5) is in Llanbadoc churchyard. - image below.

A Parish and Village on the west bank of the river Usk, and nearly opposite the town of Usk, half-a-mile west-south-west from Usk railway station and 7 miles east from Pontypool; in the Southern division of the county; Hundred, Petty Sessional division and County Court district of Usk, Union of Pontypool; western division of Usk rural deanery, archdeaconry of Monmouth and diocese of Llandaff.

The church of St. Madoc is an ancient building of stone, in the Gothic style, consisting of chancel, nave, north aisle, south porch and an embattled western tower containing 2 bells; there are 140 sittings. The register of Baptisms dates from the year 1710; Marriages, 1711; Burials, 1728. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £70, in the gift of H S Gustard Esq. and held since 1883 by the Rev. George Micaiah Williams, of Queen's College, Oxford, who is also rector of and resides at Llanllowell. Sexton: Thomas Bowyer.

Schools:

This place is included in the Glascoed United School Board District & the children attend the schools at Glascoed & Usk.

The principal seats are Cefn Ila, of Major Edward Longworth Lister J.P; Helmaen, of Philip Alfred Williams Esq. J.P. and Twyn Bell, of Maj.Gen. Josias Dunn J.P.

The principal landowners are the Duke of Beaufort, who is lord of the manor, Major Edward Longworth Lister J.P., and Edward P Martin Esq., J.P., D.L. of Dowlais. The soil is silurian; subsoil, gravel and white clay. The chief crops are wheat, barley and oats. The area is 3,465 acres; rateable value, £3,750;

The population in 1881 was 391.
